Oil Maps

Data Visualization

Description

Two maps created for separate projects showing oil shipping routes.

The first, created for policy brief “Offshore Oil and Gas Governance in the Arctic: A Leadership Role for the U.S.
by Charles Ebinger, John Banks and Alisa Schackmann, pairs with a discussion of how melting polar ice changes accessibility of shipping routes.

The second was one of several maps showing the routes and volume of oil imports to several key countries. The map emphasizes the importance of ‘choke points’- a few narrow channels most ships must pass through. See one use.
